Select DCPS Students Can Return To The Classroom Nov. 9
Students will engage in small group in-person learning with less than 12 students per class. Health screenings will be required every day.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — District of Columbia Public Schools elementary students will be returning to the classroom for Term 2 Nov. 9. Select students will engage in small group in-person learning. According to the school district, one classroom per grade will be allowed in-person instruction with less than 12 students per class. Grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade will follow a typical school day schedule.
Self-contained special education classrooms will be open, as will student CARE classrooms for every grade. Students will engage in virtual lessons while at school. Families contacted first for this opportunity will be those with students who are experiencing homelessness, receiving special education services, are English language learners and are considered at-risk. If there are spots left in each classroom after those students have been contacted, then other families will be contacted. Eligible families will be notified the week of Oct. 19.
Elementary students who wish to remain virtual can do so. Students in grades sixth through 12th will remain all virtual until further notice. Up-to-date immunizations are required in order to attend in-person classes and health screenings will be required every day. According to the school district, 6-foot social distancing will be followed, meals will be served in classrooms and an "enhanced cleaning regimen" will be followed.
