Shaw Row-Home In Need of TLC Sells Near Million Dollar Mark

This D.C. row-home in the city's up-and-coming Shaw neighborhood is in need of serious TLC and just sold for nearly $1 million! Here's how.

As Power Of Attorney for his longtime friend and landlady in Shaw, D.C. resident Robert M. was tasked with covering her extensive medical bills. The stress of it all weighed heavily on him causing a lot of sleepless nights. After considering all the financial choices available for his friend, Marjorie, the best option was to sell her late 19th century row-home in DC’s Shaw neighborhood and move elsewhere. Robert’s realtor, David, secured Marjorie more profit than any of her neighbors - and even Robert himself - thought possible in just three days, giving a dire situation a much-needed happy ending.

“The neighbors were asking, ‘how’d you get that [price]?!’ I just say, I attribute that to my realtor,”

The row-home was in need of renovations, but even in its current state its historic details and prime location in the rapidly revitalizing neighborhood meant that it could fetch top dollar. But the property’s state also called for a realtor who, like Robert, knew about Shaw’s potential and who also had the right connections to bring several buyers to the table. For Robert none of the initial agents he met with fit the bill, “I didn’t like the song and dance they gave me,” Robert recalled. On top of it, they frequently failed to return his phone calls.

It was a setback he wasn’t anticipating - Robert had to work fast to make sure that he could keep a roof over Marjorie’s head and her bills paid. He came, instead, to Agent Ace to find the highest rated realtor who specialized in Shaw.

“When I met David I immediately felt at ease,” Robert said of his real estate agent.

And for good reason - David’s connections and neighborhood experience came through. Once the home was listed the offers started rolling in. There were so many offers, in fact, that the row-home sold for 15% over asking price! “The neighbors were asking, ‘how’d you get that [price]?!’ I just say, I attribute that to my realtor,” chuckled Robert.

Financial uncertainty is now a thing of the past for Marjorie as she settles into her new home outside the city.
