Shots Fired Near National Mall: Police Take Man Into Custody: Reports
WJLA reports a man was taken into custody after police recognized a car from descriptions given near the scene.

A man has been taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, related to shots fired near the World War II Memorial on the National Mall, according to a report by WJLA-TV.
The news station reports that a gun believed to be connected with today’s shooting incident was recovered by police on Rock Creek Parkway near the Kennedy Center.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lelani Woods says there was no indication that anyone was injured in the shooting, which was reported about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The shots were heard near 17th Street and Independence Avenue SW, the station reports.
The man was taken into custody at Connecticut Avenue and Van Ness NW, WJLA reports.

A witness told the TV station that some men were fighting inside a car and that a window was broken. Police were on the lookout for a white car with New York license plates.
The investigation was creating a traffic mess, with Rock Creek Parkway closed in both directions near Virginia Avenue. US Park Police were directing traffic and roadways were still tied up at about 5:45 p.m., according to DC Police.
