Shut Your Pie Hole Debuts in Georgetown

Shut Your Pie Hole, a new pie shop coming to Georgetown, debuted this weekend at the Taste of Georgetown and donated its proceeds charity.

Shut Your Pie Hole hopes to return a family legacy to Georgetown just shy of 125 years since the first Copperthite pies were sold there.

The new business is the reincarnation of a very old family business. The Copperthite family first started making pies in Georgetown in 1885 and in 1887 became the H. Copperthite Pie Baking Company. Henry Clayton Copperthite's family business baked pies at 1407 32nd St. NW and soon expanded its pie empire throughout the District and beyond.

Descendants of the original Connecticut-Copperthite Pie Co. are hoping to open a pie shop in Georgetown once again. Mike Copperthite, Henry's great-great grandson, told Patch he is looking at space on Wisconsin Avenue, but cannot confirm a location until the lease is signed.

“We are very excited as a business and a family to present our products in Georgetown and to give back to the community," Copperthite wrote in announcing the company's debut at Taste of Georgetown.

Family members manned a booth at the foodie event Saturday, June 2, handing out over 800 pieces of pie. The proceeds from their efforts went to , according to an email from Copperthite.

"Yesterday was beyond a success and we raised over $4,000 and donated it all to charity," he wrote in an email to family, friends and supporters.
