Single-Tracking, Buses Replace Trains: WMATA Weekend Schedule

WASHINGTON, DC — There are plenty of things to do and see in the D.C. area this weekend. Some attractions you'll find include: the Chinatown Block Party, Bastille Day Celebration, Port City Old Town Bar Crawl, and Lotus and Water Lily Festival.

If you're thinking of taking the Metro on Saturday, July 13 or Sunday, July 14, you should plan accordingly: six Blue and Yellow Line train stations south of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will be closed. The station closures, which will be in effect until Sept. 8, are part of a larger improvement project by WMATA.

Here's everything you need to know before heading out for the weekend:

Red Line trains will operate every 16 minutes. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., there will be additional trains running every 8 minutes between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet. Due to construction, trains will single-track between Rhode Island Avenue and Fort Totten.

Blue Line trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Largo Town Center.

Important Shuttle Bus Information:

• Blue Line shuttles will travel between Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn Street, King Street-Old Town, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
• Shuttles will not stop at Braddock Road station
• Riders traveling to and from Braddock Road should use the Yellow Line shuttle
• Riders should anticipate 15 minutes of travel for each station stop
• A Franconia-Pentagon Express shuttle will run between Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon stations only
• Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn Street, King St-Old Town, and Braddock Road stations will be closed

Yellow Line trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Greenbelt. Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Crystal City and Huntington.

Important Shuttle Bus Information:

• Yellow Line shuttles will travel between Huntington, Eisenhower Avenue, King Street-Old Town, Braddock Road, and Crystal City
• Shuttles will not stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
• Riders traveling to and from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport should use a Blue Line shuttle
• Riders should allot 15 minutes of travel time for each station stop
• A Huntington-Pentagon Express shuttle will run between Huntington and Pentagon stations only
• Huntington, Eisenhower Avenue, King Street-Old Town, and Braddock Road stations will be closed

On Saturday, Green Line trains will operate every 16 minutes. On Sunday, they will run every 15 minutes. Due to construction, trains will single-track between Southern Avenue and Naylor Road.

Orange and Silver Line trains will run on a regular weekend schedule.
