I grew up on the shore of Lake Michigan in a town so small that if you blinked while driving through you may miss it. There are literally four people who live "in town" proper, while everyone else lives on the farms and hillsides along the penninsula.
In June my 'summer friends' would start to arrive as they and their families filled up the cottages along the lake. These friendships have lasted a lifetime, and I am so grateful to have them in my life still, and to have had the opportunity to peek into their worlds, which were much bigger than my own.
When you are a kid, you get to just be. There is no who's who, or real importance of money other than do we have enough to buy popsicles that day. All that really matters is the sun, and the waves and the joy that comes from joking around on those easy summer days.
