Support Tornado Victims with Sprinkles Cupcake

A Georgetown business is offering its own contribution to Oklahoma tornado relief efforts: 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of Red Cross Red Velvet Cupcakes at Sprinkles will go to the Red Cross’ Oklahoma chapters.

A massive tornado, estimated at two-miles wide by some reports, ripped through Moore, Okla., a suburb of Oklahoma City Monday afternoon. Authorities have since confirmed 24 deaths, including several school children.

DC Mayor Vincent Gray offered condolences and support to the tornado victims in a press release Tuesday.

"District residents who want to help should donate to reputable disaster-relief organizations, such as the American Red Cross, which are now mobilizing teams to assist both residents and first responders in the Oklahoma City area," said Gray.

If you want to do something locally to contribute to the relief efforts, you can stop by Sprinkles in Georgetown Wednesday to get a Red Cross Red Velvet cupcake. Sprinkles is located at 3015 M St. NW and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Since 2010, Sprinkles Red Cross Red Velvets have raised $65,000 and the company always donated 100 percent of the proceeds from charitable cupcakes.
