Traffic Advisory: National Christmas Tree Lighting
Expect road closures Thursday from 2-9 p.m. for annual event. Here's a look at the roads that will be closed so you can plan your route.

On Thursday, Dec. 3, the National Christmas Tree Lighting (Pageant of Peace Ceremony) will take place in the District of Columbia, tying up some roadways for much of the day.
Several streets will be closed that motorists should take into consideration, DC Police note in a traffic advisory released this week.

The street closure site set-up for the National Christmas Tree Lighting will be from 2 pm until approximately 9 pm. The streets closed to traffic will be 15th Street and 17th Streets, between Constitution Avenue, and New York Avenue, N.W.
The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia and the United States Park Police will put the following street closures affecting vehicular traffic into effect Thursday at 2 p.m. The street closures will be lifted when the event has concluded. The closures as a result of the event are as follows:

- 17th Street, NW closed from Independence Avenue to New York Avenue, NW
- 15th Street, NW closed from Independence Avenue to New York Avenue, NW
- Constitution Avenue from 14th Street to 18th Street, NW
- Pennsylvania Avenue from 14th Street to 15th Street, NW
- Madison Drive from 14th Street to 15th Street, NW
- Jefferson Drive from 14th Street to 15th Street, NW
All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions. Motorists could encounter possible delays if operating in the vicinity of this event and may wish to consider alternative routes. The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation also wishes to remind motorists in the vicinity of this event to proceed with caution as increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated.
