Varnish Lane: Offering a 'Greener' Mani-Pedi

New salon in DC offers a greener, healthier experience. An alternative to soaking your tootsies in water.

Some DC residents may recall a TV commercial from way back when featuring “Madge,” a manicurist who talked about a certain dish soap that was so easy on your hands that it was used at a nail salon. She told her clients about the soap, ending with the tag line: “You’re soaking in it.”

You won’t be soaking in anything at a new nail salon that just opened last week in DC.

Varnish Lane, located at 5236 44th St. NW, is offering a new mani-pedi “waterless” experience, meaning no feet in a swirling mini hot tub, no nails soaking in a dish of warm water.

The owners of the new luxe salon say the waterless manicures and pedicures are healthier because, by not using water, you’re protected from harmful bacteria, which prevents infections. It’s also a greener experience, because you’re saving 10 gallons of water per nail service.

The new salon touts its use of local, all-natural products as well as a huge number of nail products, from Chanel to Dior to OPI.

The luxe experience at Varnish Lane includes perusing your favorite magazine on an iPad Mini and relaxing with a cup of coffee, tea or Prosecco, according to Washingtonian magazine.
