Watch Giant Panda Bei Bei Get Help From Mom

Smithsonian National Zoo's most famous resident, Giant Panda cub Bei Bei, was caught on video learning to climb a tree.


WASHINGTON, DC -- Moms are all alike: When Giant Panda cub Bei Bei became a little too adventurous while climbing a tree Monday at the National Zoo, mom Mei Xiang did a little helicopter parenting.

The six-month old cub can be seen in the video above climbing a tree Monday and mom came to the rescue to help him down.

Bei Bei was born August 22, one of two cubs, but the other cub didn’t survive. Bei Bei lives in the David M. Rubenstein Family Giant Panda Habitat with four giant pandas: His dad Tian Tian, mom Mei Xiang, and sister Bao Bao.

Giant pandas are a “must see” for any Zoo visitor, and website visitors can catch a glimpse of these bears on the Panda Cam.

As few as 1,864 giant pandas live in their native habitat, while another 300 pandas live in zoos and breeding centers around the world. The Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute is a leader in giant panda conservation.
