Water Main Break In Georgetown Causes Damage, Closes Businesses

The water was turned off, street damage occurred, debris littered the streets and flood damage to businesses was reported in Georgetown.

GEORGETOWN, D.C. — Residents wanting to enjoy Taste and Shop Georgetown should check with a store or restaurant first to make sure they're open after a large water main break shut down M Street and Wisconsin Avenue in front of Banana Republic and forced the water to be turned off. A significant amount of street damage occurred and debris littered the streets. Some flooding damage to businesses has been reported.

As of Friday afternoon, Wisconsin Avenue remained closed between M Street and Canal, and traffic on M Street is moving slowly. Because the water was turned off, some businesses are unable to reopen for regular hours and Taste and Shop Georgetown. DC Water estimates that repairs and restoration will be wrapped up later Friday night, according to Georgetown BID.
