Wed Nov 11 Sol Roots, Swift Technique, and Nicky & the RSB perform at Gypsy Sallys in DC! Feat. funk/soul bands from Philly, DC, and VA

Three fantastic funk/soul/rock bands join forces for an incredible night of music on Wed Nov 11 at Gypsy Sally’s in Washington DC. Soulful vocalist and talented guitarist Sol Roots headlines the night with a cast of DC heavyweight musicians. Swift Technique brings solid funk grooves from Philadelphia PA. Nicky and the RSB hail from Virginia and create rich bluesy rock and roll.

Sol Roots

“Sol’s playing has been described as “musical glue,” holding together many grooves and personalities. He has backed up legendary artists like Taj Mahal and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, opened for Robert Randolph, Wood Brothers, and has played with more obscure artists who have had unique perspectives and sounds. Though it all, he has learned many valuable lessons and is still able to hold on to the one thing that ties us all spiritually to one another — music.”- Jeff Reid - The Beat Magazine

Paying homage to the greats, Sol seeks to push musical boundaries and bring Roots Music to a new generation of listeners.

“The song “Rough Catfish” plants the listener firmly back in the barrens of the Mississippi Delta, as Sol howls like a man possessed. Think of Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” fused with Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun,” and you get some indication of what this song “feels” like. Tall comparison, I know, but this song, with its wonderful use of mood, proves worthy of the distinction.”- Evan Wade, Home Grown Music Network

“a heavy groove! Sol tears out funk, blues, and rock, delivered with deep soul” - T. Duffy, President Music Maker

“Sol is an exceptional guitarist & a great musician/songwriter with an extraordinary ability to fit the perfect approach and composition.”- Fred Cannon, a Senior VP at BMI

Nicky C & RSB

Nick Collins’ booming bass and soaring vocals create a comforting and bluesy feel, accompanied by the sound of Josh Stansfield’s soulful lead guitar, and Justin Ehrlich’s explosive drums. The band is diverging from the ideology of Blues-Rock purists, by creating a fresh alternative and noteworthy sound that is reminiscent of the Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, and Kings of Leon.
Nick and Justin have been playing together in various bands since they first met at Towson University in 2004, and once Josh met the duo, the band has become unstoppable. This three-member band began close to the nation’s capital in Fairfax, VA, in December of 2012. The band released their first self-titled EP in June of 2013, paving the way for their first, full-length album, “Much Obliged” released in August 2014. Since their formation they have played at over 60 shows and festivals such as The Mad Tea Party Jam 3, Pink Moon, Doah Fest, and Not Fade Away.
Nicky C and the RSB have shared the stage with headlining artists like Papadosio, The Werks, Dopapod, Tauk, PBR, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Turkuaz and ELM. They also directly supported fellow artists like Jimkata, Spiritual Rez, The Heavy Pets, American Babies, Stokeswood, The Shack Band and Moogatu.
“For those of you who enjoy good ole gritty Southern Rock, Nicky C is definitely for you. Do you enjoy the Drive by Truckers, the Black Crowes, the Allman Brothers ? (I hope everyone answers yes to all of these). In all sincerity this is some great work from a strong power trio, a new band seeking to make its mark on the local music scene. This track exudes their rising and growing talent on the scene. “It Takes A Woman” comes off their forthcoming album, Much Obliged, which was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kenny Eaton at Mystery Ton Studios.”
- Andrew McConnell, Live Music Daily (Jul 23, 2014)

Swift Technique

Swift Technique enters 2015 after completing their busiest year to date. Most recently, the band has held several high profile support slots, including sharing the stage with The M&M’s (John Medeski, Stanton Moore, Papa Mali, Rob Mercurio), Deep Banana Blackout and The Royal Southern Brotherhood(Cyril Neville, Devon Allman). While completing tours through the Northeast, Southeast & Midwest United States, the band debuted at numerous Music & Arts Festivals, including Communiversity Festival (Princeton), Bear’s Picnic and Meeting of the Minds (JibberJazz). With a new single release slated for March ’15, Swift Technique continues to work towards an upcoming full-length album release.
After forming in 2007, Swift Technique has relentlessly toured, performed and recorded throughout the US. The extremely positive chemistry shared by the band has always been translated in the live setting. With the 2013 release of, “you boys be aight”, Swift Technique has now established themselves as an up and coming force in the recording industry. Although the group draws from many world influences, their genre is uniquely Philadelphia.
Throughout their short history, Swift Technique has had the privilege to hold direct support slots for The Meters, Wu-Tang Clan, Soulive, The M&M’s (John Medeski, Stanton Moore, Papa Mali, Rob Mercurio), Kermit Ruffins, Wale, Questlove of the Roots, Keri Hilson, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Orgone, Kung Fu, Mr. Lif, The Fela! After a string of hometown performances in 2007 and 2008, Swift Technique was named one of the top 10 Hip-Hop bands in Philadelphia by The Deli Magazine. Since their early days, the group has evolved from a Live Hip-Hop group to an old school Funk Ensemble in the tradition of James Brown, with the grit of Led Zeppelin.
In recent years, Swift Technique has worked with CEG (NYC), NOLA Funk (NYC), Hood Booking (DC), The Backbeat Foundation (New Orleans), Rock On Concerts (Boston), Rocks Off Concert Cruises (NYC) and WXPN (Philly). The group has also performed at the country’s top venues including Sullivan Hall, B.B.
