Weekend Metro Work May Cause Delays: Dec. 8 - 9

If you're taking the Metro this weekend, you should get to the station early and plan accordingly.

WASHINGTON, DC — There's plenty to see in the D.C. metro area this weekend — including Georgetown GLOW, ZooLights, DC Santa Crawl, and the Christmas and Holiday Parade.

If you're thinking of taking the Metro on Saturday, Dec. 8 or Sunday, Dec. 9, you might want to get to the station early. Service changes and a shutdown of the Yellow Line may cause some delays.

Here's everything you need to know before heading out for the weekend:

On Saturday, the Red Line will run every 12 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, and every 6 minutes between Grosvenor and Silver Spring. On Sunday, trains will operate every 15 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont, and every 8 minutes between Shady Grove and Silver Spring.

On both Saturday and Sunday, Red Line trains will single-track between Farragut North and Judiciary Square after 10 p.m.

Blue Line trains will run every 16 minutes between Franconia-Springfield and Largo Town Center, and Huntington and Largo Town Center. Trains will operate every 8 minutes between King Street and Largo Town Center until 8 p.m. They will then run every 20 minutes.

There is no Yellow Line service through Sunday, Dec. 9. If you're traveling between Virginia and D.C., use the Blue Line. The shutdown is part of Metro's 14-day capital improvement project. For more information about Yellow Line service and alternative transportation options, click here.

Orange, Silver, and Green line trains will run on a regular weekend schedule.
