White House Fence Jumper Arrested, Identified as California Man

Jerome Hunt, 54, was quickly apprehended and was scheduled to appear in court today.

A man from Hayward, Calif., was arrested Sunday night for allegedly climbing over a White House fence, U.S. Secret Service officials said today. Jerome Hunt, 54, is accused of climbing over a fence on the south side of the White House at about 10:25 p.m. Sunday.

NBC-4 reports during their 5 p.m. broadcast that the man took a Greyhound bus to DC and jumped over the fence using a bike rack.

Hunt was immediately arrested after getting over the fence, according to the Secret Service. He has been charged with misdemeanor unlawful entry and was scheduled to appear in Superior Court of the District of Columbia today, according to court records.

According to CNN, Hunt was carrying a package initially thought to be suspicious, when he climbed the fence but upon investigation following his arrest, the package was determined to be harmless.

CNN reported that about a dozen people have made it over the high fence around the White House in the last five years.
