Woman Charged With Obstructing Justice In Georgetown Murder Case

The girlfriend of a man who fatally shot a teenager in Georgetown last year pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiring to obstruct justice.

GEORGETOWN, DC — The girlfriend of a man who fatally shot a teenager in Georgetown last year pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiring to obstruct justice.

If the court approves her plea deal, 24-year-old Aminata Bah of Bowie will face between three and seven years in prison, and possible probation, the U.S. attorney announced Friday.

Prosecutors said the shooting occurred in the 3500 block of Water Street NW around 2:50 a.m. on July 8, 2017. The shooting followed a verbal altercation between Bah's boyfriend, Demarius Jackson, and two victims. After about five minutes of arguing, Jackson walked up to the victims and shot 19-year-old Kennedy Amaya-Olivares — once in the back of the head and once in the chest. Prosecutors said Jackson then chased after the other victim, shooting him twice in the torso.

Following the incident, Bah and her friends dropped Jackson off in Maryland and agreed not to tell police about the murder. Jackson, who later fled to West Virginia, was arrested and extradited to the District. He was charged with voluntary manslaughter while armed and assault with a dangerous weapon in May 2018. That August, Jackson received a sentence of 15 years in prison.

During the investigation, "Bah omitted and attempted to minimize her knowledge of and familiarity with Jackson" and lied to law enforcement "in order to obstruct the investigation into the murder her boyfriend committed," the U.S. attorney's office said.
