1 Dead, 1 Critically Injured At Key Bridge

Rescue crews searched the Potomac River after two people fell in.

WASHINGTON, DC — One person is dead and another is critically injured after being fished out of the Potomac River near the Key Bridge Sunday night.

D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted at 8:28 p.m. that crews were conducting a search on the Potomac River after witnesses reported two people went into the water and didn't resurface.

About 20 minutes later, D.C. Fire and EMS stated they had two fireboats and two zodiac boats searching, with a K-9 en route. An 11:11 p.m. update indicated that one person was declared dead at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital in "very critical condition."

WJLA reported that a family member claims the victim had been drinking and fell into the water, and a friend jumped in to rescue him.
