11-Year-Old Girl Kidnapped, Police Chase Ends in Crash Near Washington Monument: Report
The girl is OK and two people have been taken into custody after a dramatic rescue on the National Mall Sunday.
WASHINGTON, DC — An 11-year-old girl from North Carolina is safe after she was kidnapped from her home in Charlotte by her uncle after he allegedly killed his own parents, according to a report.
NBC Washington reports that police arrested 37-year-old Curtis Atkinson, Jr., who had taken Arieyana Forney, 11, to D.C. before crashing after police chased him Sunday night.
Charlottee authorities had issued an Amber Alert for Forney after finding her grandparents dead inside of a home and Forney missing on Sunday afternoon, according to the report.

D.C. police reportedly got a call from someone who claimed they had been kidnapped, prompting police to flood areas near the monuments. They spotted the suspect car near the Navy Yard.
After a short chase, the car crashed into another car near the Washington Memorial on Independence Avenue SW, the report states, adding that Atkinson, Forney and 25-year-old Nikkia Cooper were all found in the car. Atkinson and Cooper were taken into custody.
