1st Degree Murder Charge Filed In Anacostia Fatal Shooting
Homicide detectives arrested a Southeast man in connection with the Oct. 9 fatal shooting of 28-year-old Yisa Jeffcoat.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested a Southeast man Monday in connection with the Oct. 9 fatal shooting of 28-year-old Yisa Jeffcoat, of Southeast, according to a police release.
Officers from the Seventh District responded around 9:56 p.m., to the 1600 block of W Street, Southeast, for the sound of gunshots. The arriving officers found Jeffcoat suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a nearby hospital but all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.
Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Monday, MPD arrested Kevin Goggins, 20, of Southeast, and charged him with first degree murder while armed (premeditated).

MPD released Goggins' arrest history, which included charges of gambling and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. This case remains an active investigation.
MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District. Police ask anyone with information about this case to call 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous tip by text to 50411.
