2 Dead After 5 Shootings Rock the District
One woman carrying grocery bags was gunned down in the streets by a passing vehicle, according to a report.

Two people are dead and three are in the hospital after five separate shootings were recorded by D.C. police in just four hours Monday.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement that since 1 p.m. May 16, they have been investigating the shootings, which have resulted in two people being fatally wounded and an additional three victims who are recovering at local hospitals.
WJLA reported that in one case, a woman carry grocery bags was gunned down by a man who was leaning out the window of a passing car.

The first shooting resulted in Plummer Elementary School in Southeast being placed on lockdown. The victim in that shooting was transported to the hospital, according to the report.
The second shooting happened near the Georgia Ave. Metro station. In that case the victim suffered a graze wound.

The last three shootings happened within 30 minutes of each other in Southeast.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier told reporters in a press conference later that night that two of the shootings may have been connected.
"MPD continues to have police resources on scene as each location is investigated thoroughly," the MPD statement reads. "If anyone has information pertaining to these incidents, they are encouraged to reach out to MPD personnel."
