2 Fatal Shootings Under Investigation By DC Police

D.C. police are investigating two recent homicides, one near the Washington Navy Yard and the other in the Shipley area.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two recent homicides, one near the Washington Navy Yard and the other in the Shipley area, according to a police release.

Around 9:25 p.m., on Wednesday, officers from the First District responded to the 1000 block of 13th Street, Southeast for the report of a shooting. They found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. After examining the victim, D.C. Fire and EMS pronounced him dead on the scene and later transported him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Officers found a second man suffering multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police identified the deceased victim as Kelvin Gross, 30, of Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, December 10, 2020, in the 3200 block of 23rd Street, Southeast.

In the second case, officers from the Seventh District responded around 3:06 a.m., Thursday to the 3200 block of 23rd Street, Southeast, for the report of a person down. The officers found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC FEMS pronounced the man dead on the scene and transported him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police identified the deceased victim as Duane Woolfolk, 21, of Southeast.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District.
