2 Fatal Shootings Investigated By DC Police

Homicide detectives are investigating two fatal shootings, one involving a woman in Fort Dupont and the other a man in Congress Heights.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two fatal shooting that took place overnight, one in Congress Heights and the other in Fort Dupont, according to a police release.

In the first case, officers from the Seventh District responded around 8:44 p.m., on Thursday, to the 1300 block of Alabama Ave., S.E., for the sound of gunshots. They found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a nearby hospital, but all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. MPD identified the man as David Miller, of no fixed address.

Around 3:19 a.m., on Friday, officers from the Sixth District responded to the 300 block of 37th St., S.E., for the sound of gunshots. They found a woman inside a vehicle and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. FEMS examined the woman and determined she had died. She was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. MPD identified the woman as Cyhneil Smith, 23, of Southeast.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District. Police ask anyone with information about either of these homicides to call 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous tip by text to 50411.
