2 Homicides Under Investigation By DC Police
Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred early Wednesday morning.
WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating to fatal shootings that occurred early Wednesday morning, one in Upper Central N.E. and the other in Fairlawn, according to a police release.
Officers from the Sixth District reported around 1:20 a.m., to the 4000 block of Grant Street, N.E., for the report of the sound of gunshots. They found an unconscious man suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS determined the man showed no signs of life and he was pronounced dead. The victim was later taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
MPD identified the decedent as Dennis Dykes, 34, of Southeast.

Around 1:22 p.m., Sixth District officers responded for the report of a shooting in the 1800 block of Q Street, S.E. They found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS took the victim to an area hospital for treatment, but all life-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.

MPD identified the deceased victim as Kelvin Goggins, 18, of Southeast.
