2 Missing Teens From African Robotics Team Found Safe: Police

Two of the six missing Burundian teens who disappeared from an international robotics competition in DC have been found safe.

WASHINGTON, DC — Two of the six missing Burundian teens who disappeared from an international robotics competition in DC have been found safe, police said. Don Ingabire, 16, and Audrey Mwamikazi, 17, were located safely, police announced Tuesday. They were both spotted crossing into Canada July 20. A police spokesman wouldn't say where the teens were found because of the department policy for missing person cases.

Police are still searching for the four other teens on the team who disappeared while in DC for the robotics competition. The team was competing at the FIRST Global Challenge robotics competition, which featured hundreds of youths from 157 nations worldwide at Constitution Hall in Northwest — just a stone's throw from the White House. Burundi is a small country in east Africa.

“FIRST Global learned the adult mentor of Team Burundi is unable to find the group of six students of the team who participated in the 2017 FIRST Global Challenge,” an organization spokesman said in a statement July 20, as reported by the Post.

Police say they don't suspect foul play with any of the missing teens. According to reports, event organizers said their disappearance may have been "self-initiated."
