2 Fatal Shootings Under Investigation: DC Police

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred in the District.

WASHINGTON, DC — Detectives are from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two recent homicides in the District, one in Congress Heights and the other in Woodley Park, according to a police release.

In the first case, officers from the Second District responded around 9:29 a.m., Thursday for the report of an unconscious person in the 2900 block of Connecticut Avenue, N.W. The officers located the man, who was suffering from a gunshot wound, inside an apartment. DC FEMS determined the man had died and transported his body to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police identified the decedent as Edward Pearson, 39, of no fixed address.

MPD discovered another man, who was also suffering from a gunshot wound, in a hallway at the same location. He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

In the second case, officers from the Seventh District responded around 1:02 a.m., Friday to the 700 block of Atlantic Street, S.E., for the report of a shooting. They found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS determined the man was dead and later transported his body to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police identified the deceased victim as Brahem Furtick, 42, of Southeast.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District.
