2016 Race for Hope Will Shut Down Lots of Roads in DC This Weekend
Police have released a list of road closures for the May 1 race.

Police will be shutting down a lot of roads in downtown D.C. this Sunday for the 2016 Race for Hope.
The Metropolitan Police Department and Department of Transportation will be shutting down parts of Pennsylvania Ave. and 13th Street NW near Freedom Plaza at 4 a.m. on May 1, and they will remain shut down until noon when the race is scheduled to end, according to a police statement.
In addition, authorities will also be closing down a long list of streets in downtown at 9 a.m., and they will remain closed until noon. Parts of Pennsylvania Avenue, Constitution Avenue, Independence Avenue, 3rd through 13th streets, and C and D streets will be affected by the closures. The full list of those streets is below.

"Motorists traveling in the area of this event may experience delays and should consider alternative routes, if possible," the statement notes.
The Race for Hope DC is a 5K race in the heart of the nation's capital that aims to raise money for research to fight brain tumors.

"It is one of the largest fundraisers in the country benefiting the brain tumor community and the proceeds support National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure," the website states. "Through generous gifts from individuals and company sponsorships, the Race for Hope - DC has raised $25 million in its history."
The race will feature "thousands of runners and walkers." This will be the 19th annual race in its history.
The list of road closures is below:
The following streets around Freedom Plaza will be closed from approximately 4:00 am to 13:00 pm
- Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 12th and 14th Street NW
- 13th street between E Street and Pennsylvania Avenue
The run will start at approximately 9:00 am in the 1200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W, and proceed:
- East on Pennsylvania Avenue, to 3rd Street, N.W.
- South on 3rd Street, N.W., to Independence Avenue, S.W.
- West on Independence Avenue, S.W., to 7th Street, S.W.
- Make a U-turn and travel East on Independence Avenue, S.W. to 4th Street, S.W.
- South on 4th Street to D Street, S.W.
- East on D Street, S.W. to 3rd Street, S.W.
- North on 3rd Street, S.W., to Maryland Avenue, S.W. (Where they will enter US Capitol grounds) and proceed
- East on Maryland Avenue, S.W., to 1st Street, S.W.
- North on 1st Street, to Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
- West on Pennsylvania Avenue, returning to the start / finish line.
The following streets will be closed from approximately 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 3rd Street to 14th Street, NW
- Constitution Avenue, NW from 7th Street to 3rd Street, NW
- 13th Street, NW from E Street to Pennsylvania Ave, NW
- 12th Street, NW from E Street to Constitution Ave, NW
- 11th Street, NW from E Street to Pennsylvania Ave, NW
- 10th Street, NW from E Street to Constitution Ave, NW
- 9th Street, NW from E Street to Constitution Ave, NW
- 7th Street, NW from Constitution Ave to D ST, NW
- 6th Street, NW from Constitution Ave to D ST, NW
- 4th Street, NW from Pennsylvania Ave, NW to E ST, SW
- 3rd Street, NW from Constitution Ave, NW to E ST, SW
