2017 Cherry Blossoms Update: They're Blooming
New photos indicate the Tidal Basin is already being bathed in pink, despite a deep freeze that killed off half of blossoms.

WASHINGTON, DC — You can breathe a deep sigh of relief, Washingtonians: the Tidal Basin is going to look just fine despite our unexpected deep freeze. New photos of the area posted on social media Tuesday show that those blooms are emerging just fine, even if we lost half of them to the cold, according to the National Park Service.
Pictures below show that quite a few trees are blooming, bathing the Tidal Basin in pink several days before NPS says they are expected to reach their peak (NPS won't put on a date on it, but say it should happen by this weekend).
Sadly, it's been quite cloudy on Tuesday, so it's not ideal weather for photography. Wednesday might be a little bit better, but the next truly sunny day should be Thursday.
