DC Comedy Festival is excited to announce that its second annual namesake comedy festival will be held from April 9-13. The biggest comedy festival in the DC metro area will showcase five nights of hilarity, featuring comics of all levels, from nationally renowned comedians to the rising stars in the DC scene.
The DC metro area is a burgeoning comedy hub, on par with New York’s and Los Angeles’ stand-up scene, and DC Comedy Festival CEO Eddie Liles is determined to prove so with the festival.
“The second annual DC Comedy Festival will be bigger than the first. We’re partnering with several venues across the city, so no matter where you live in the DC area, there will be a show near you,” says Liles.
The Opening Night Ceremony Showcase will kick off the festival on April 9 at 7:30 PM at Dupont Underground. The show is free, but donations will be collected to benefit the Dupont Underground Charity.
Co-headlining the festival on closing night will be Carmen Lynch and Jordan Carlos on April 13 at 8 PM at The Miracle Theatre. Lynch is a Spanish-American comedian and actress who has appeared on Conan, Inside Amy Schumer, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Carlos has appeared on The Colbert Report, Girls, and Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, and is currently a writer for HBO’s The Divorce. Tickets are $35.
DC Drafthouse Comedy Theatre is one of the festival’s featured venues. On April 11, Alice Wetterlund will headline the 7:30 PM show at Drafthouse. Headliner Eddie Bryant is set to start at 9:30 PM there. Also co-headlining at Drafthouse are Alex Scott and Hilarious Omar on April 12 at 11 PM. Ticket prices available on dccomedyfestival.com.
The festival will also showcase 100 comedians, improv groups, and sketch groups, who all submitted videos of a 5-minute set to be featured. Free showcases include:
· Humans Telling Jokes on April 9 at 8:30 PM at Solly’s Tavern;
· Estrogenius, all-female comedians, on April 10 at 7:30 PM at Red Bear Brewing;
· Exiled Wednesday’s: Music and Comedy Showcase on April 10th 8 pm at Exiles Bar; and
· Wokety Woke Woker than Woke, socially and politically conscious comedians, on April 9 at 8 PM at Dew Drop Inn.
