2nd Degree Murder Charge Filed In New Year's Day Traffic Fatality

Metropolitan Police Department detectives arrested a Southeast woman in connection with the death of 32-year-old Loleita Patricia Gross.

WASHNGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department detectives from the Major Crash Investigations Unit arrested a Southeast woman Thursday in connection with a Jan. 1 traffic fatality, according to a police release. Police identified the deceased victim as 32-year-old Loleita Patricia Gross, of Southeast.

Around 4:17 a.m., a silver colored SUV was traveling southwest on Minnesota Avenue, Southeast, when it failed to negotiate a turn and left the roadway. The SUV struck Gross, who was on a sidewalk inside of a park area. The occupants of the SUV fled on foot, leaving the vehicle at the scene. D.C. Fire and EMS transported Gross to a nearby hospital, but all lifesaving efforts failed and she was pronounced dead.

Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Thursday, officers arrested Rosa Bishop, 33, of Southeast, and charged her with second degree murder.
