2nd Degree Murder Charge Levied Against Northwest Man: DC Police

D.C. Police charged a Northwest man Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of 56-year-old James Jackson Jr. in the Park View area.

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. homicide detectives arrested a Northwest man Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of 56-year-old James Jackson Jr. in the Park View area earlier that night, according to police.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth District found Jackson unconscious and unresponsive. They had responded around 9:50 p.m. to the 3400 block of Sherman Avenue, Northwest for the report of a shooting. Jackson appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medical personnel from the D.C. Fire & Rescue Department examined Jackson and determined that he had died. They later transported him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The responding officers arrested 28-year-old Dawit Guevara of Northwest and recovered a firearm. Guevara was charged with second degree murder while armed.
