3 Dead Following String Of DC Fatal Shootings: Police

D.C. Police are asking the public's help in identifying suspects in three recent fatal shootings in the District.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are asking the public's help in identifying suspects in three recent fatal shootings in the District, according to MPD police releases.

In the first case, officers from the Seventh District responded on Thursday, around 6:29 p.m., for the report of the sound of gunshots in 1800 block of Alabama Ave., S.E. Arriving officers found an adult woman, suffering from gunshot wounds, inside a vehicle in the 3500 block of 22nd St., S.E.

D.C. Fire and EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but all life-saving efforts failed and she was pronounced dead. Police identified the deceased victim as Donika Hawkins, 24, of Southeast.

Following a preliminary investigation, homicide detectives determined the offense took place in the 1800 block of Alabama Ave., S.E.

In the second case, officers from the Fourth District responded around 11:41 p.m., on Thursday, to the 7000 block of Blair Road, N.W., for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Arriving on the scene, they found an adult man, conscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound. After canvassing the area, officers found a second adult man, unconscious and unresponsive, in the 7000 block of 5th St., N.W.

D.C. Fire and EMS determined the second victim was dead and later transported him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The first victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police identified the decedent as Phillip Roache, 38, of Waldorf, Maryland.


In the third case, officers from the Seventh District responded on Friday, around 9 p.m., to the 2300 block of Ainger Place, S.E., for the report of a shooting. They located an adult man, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. Canvassing the area, officers found an adult woman, suffering from a graze wound.

D.C. Fire and EMS determined the male victim to be deceased and transported him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The female victim was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

Police identified the deceased man as Marcos Brooks, 56, of Beltsville, Maryland.


MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for committing a homicide in the District. Anyone with information about any of these three homicides is asked to call 202-727-9099 or submit an anonymous tip by sending a text message to 50411.
