3-Year-Old Maced By Cops In DC, Family Claims: Report

The incident allegedly happened at a barbershop in Northeast and resulted in the little girl being sent to the hospital.

WASHINGTON, DC -- A 3-year-old girl had to spend the night in the hospital after being maced during an altercation with police, her family claims according to a report.

WUSA 9 reports that 3-year-old Riley's mother and aunt say the scene was "like a war" at Nook's Barbershop on Sheriff Road in Northeast back on June 13.

Police were there to search men outside the barber shop, claiming that one had a handgun, and they came charging toward them, the family claims according to the report. The incident has angered the community, with local leaders speaking out and some planning a sit-in.

"We understand the tensions following the incident that occurred yesterday. Please know that we will continue to work with residents of the community, Advisory Neighborhood Commission, and stakeholders," said Metropolitan Police Department Public Affairs Specialist Karimah Bilal in a statement to WUSA9. "The most important thing is that we work together."

No charges were filed after the incident, although several arrests were made.
