WASHINGTON, D.C. — Four teenagers were arrested late Saturday night at Washington, DC’s Waterfront Metro Station when a large crowd of young people had gathered in the area, WUSA9 reports.

Three were charged with fighting, one with disorderly conduct, unlawful entry and assaulting an officer. Police have not released the ages of the minors.

The arrests occurred during what is being called a “teen takeover," in which large groups of young people gather in an area, WTOP reported. Reports of underage drinking and rowdy behavior often accompany the gatherings.

Such “teen takeovers” have been happening across the District. The incidents typically involve large gatherings of young people, and have a history of underage drinking and rowdy behavior.

On April 4, eight youths between the ages of 12 and 17 were arrested outside the Navy Yard curfew zone during a “Teen Spring Jam” at the King-Greenleaf Recreation Center, WTOP reported.

District police have imposed special curfew zones in areas where the gatherings have tended to occur, including the nearby Navy Yard, which has been under a special curfew zone since April 9. That curfew prohibits groups of larger than 9 young people from gathering after 8 p.m. until the 11 p.m. curfew begins.

The Waterfront Metro is not included in that area, and no arrests have been reported from the Navy Yard despite the apparent curfew violation.

The District’s current juvenile curfew is set to expire April 15. On April 21, WUSA9 reports, the DC City Council will vote on legislation to allow the MPD to make permanent youth curfew zones and legislation is expected to be introduced to extend current curfew zones through spring and summer.
