2016 4th of July Fireworks in DC: Where to Watch

It'll be a spectacular show on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. once again this year.

What better place to celebrate Independence Day than on the National Mall? Once again, 2016 will feature a top-notch fireworks show celebrating our nation's founding.

It will be a day filled with music and activities, culminating in the famous fireworks show at around 9:09 p.m. on July 4, and there's a number of great places to get a good view.

Since the fireworks will be launched from the Lincoln Memorial, pretty much anywhere in the vicinity of the National Mall is a good place. The best spots, as recommended by the National Park Service, are near the Lincoln Memorial, anywhere on the National Mall, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the White House Ellipse, West Potomac Park, East Potomac Park and Anacostia Park.

Viewing areas near the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool "will be accessible only through secure access points," according to a National Park Service statement.

Be aware that areas along Independence Avenue between the Lincoln Memorial and World War II Memorial will be closed for a period after the show for safety checks related to the fireworks launch, which could delay you getting home.
