5 Homicides Under Investigation By DC Police

Metropolitan Police Department detectives are investigating five separate homicides that took place recently around the District.

WASHINGTON, DC — Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating five recent homicides that took place around the District, according to police reports. The details of the homicides are as follows:

  • Members of the Sixth District responded to the 5000 block of Jay Street, N.E., around 8:27 p.m., on Wednesday, for the report of a shooting. They found an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS examined the victim but found no signs consistent with life. The victim was later taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Police identified the decedent as Kim Maurice Cooke, 49, of Waldorf, Maryland.
  • Around 4:01 p.m., on Thursday, members of the Fifth District responded to the 2800 block of V Street, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. They found an adult male, inside of a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS responded to the scene, but they found no signs consistent with life and later transported the victim to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. MPD identified the deceased victim as Kyree Pringle, 25, of Bryans Road, Maryland.
  • Members of the Sixth District responded around 10:19 p.m., on Thursday, to the 800 block of Ridge Road, S.E., for the report of a shooting. They found an adult man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment, but all life-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. Police identified the deceased victim as Byron Bright, 23, of Oxon Hill, Maryland.
  • Around 8:47 a.m., on Friday, officers form the Seventh District responded to the 1100 block of Barnaby Terrace, S.E., for the report of a shooting. They found an adult man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported the man to a nearby hospital, but all life-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. Police identified the deceased victim as Erik Butler, 28, of Southeast.
  • D.C. Fire and EMS responded around 10:12 p.m, on Saturday, to the unit block of Bates Street, Northwest, for the report of a man down. They found an an adult man, suffering from a stab wound, and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment. All life-saving efforts failed, and the man was pronounced dead on the scene. Officers from the Third District determined the stabbing took place in the unit block of Florida Avenue, Northwest. Police identified the decedent as Aaron Watts, 33, of no fixed address.
