5-Year-Old Girl Struck And Killed While Riding Her Bike In DC

A girl who was riding a bicycle was killed Monday evening when a van crashed into her in Northeast D.C., according to the D.C. police.

WASHINGTON, DC — A 5-year-old girl who was riding a bicycle was killed Monday evening when a van crashed into her in the Brookland area of Northeast D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The girl, Allison Hart of Northeast, was unable to stop her bicycle and entered the intersection of 14th and Irving streets NE into the path of the van, the D.C. police said Tuesday. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after all life-saving efforts failed, the girl was pronounced dead.

According to D.C. police, at about 6:55 p.m. Monday, the driver of a Royal Cab Transit van was traveling eastbound on Irving Street NE and was proceeding through a stop sign at 14th Street after coming to a complete stop.

As the driver pulled off from the stop sign, the van struck the girl. The driver immediately came to a stop and remained on the scene, the police said.
