All-Women Coworking Space 'The Wing' Expands To DC

WASHINGTON, DC — The popular New York work and community space for women — called The Wing — is expanding to DC, NBC Washington reports.

This all-women coworking space and social club opened in New York's Flatiron area in October. The DC location will be their first location outside of New York.

Built upon the heritage of the Women's Club movement of the late 19th century, The Wing has an open-plan workspace with meeting rooms, a phone booth, an all-female library, a cafe with food and cocktails made by women, a beauty room with showers, a lactation room and more.

"The Wing was born out of the conviction that women deserve space designed to fit their everyday needs, and that magic happens when women of different minds and passions gather in one place," their website states.

Co-founder Audrey Gelman told NBC that the club will be 10,000 square feet. While the club will retain some of the "signature design elements" of the New York location, the DC location will have a style of it's own.

The owners picked a location in DC, but have not announced where yet.

"There is something defiant about holding space for women in this moment," Gelman said.

The Wing reviews and accepts members into their coworking workspace. Gelman said they received over 1,000 applications within 24 hours of announcing the new space in DC.

"We had a ton of women in the District reaching out to us," Gelman said. "People were really outspoken about their enthusiasm about the concept."

Membership costs $215 per month, or members can pay a one-time annual payment of $2,250.
