• Small Fire Reported At Capitol Visitor Center In DC (patch.com) — A small fire involving a space heater at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, DC led to temporary evacuations Friday afternoon, but was quickly extinguished by DC Fire and EMS. Officials reported no immediate threat to the Capitol complex, visitors, members, or staff, though the area was briefly closed off as a precaution.    

• Woman stabbed, carjacked after waking up to find person in passenger's seat: MPD (fox5dc.com) — Police are asking for the public’s help after a woman was stabbed and carjacked while sleeping in her car in Southeast Washington, D.C., on April 4. The attack happened around 2 a.m. on Savannah Terrace SE, and officers later found her crashed, abandoned car on 18th Street SE. MPD has released suspect images and urges anyone with tips to call 202-727-9099.    

• Four Riders Represent Newton Police Department in 2026 Unity Ride (tapinto.net) — A multi-day Police Unity Tour ride concluded in Washington, D.C., where Newton, New Jersey officers joined ceremonies honoring fallen law enforcement at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and a candlelight vigil. Riders brought a late colleague’s bicycle to the capital in tribute and escorted surviving family members during the remembrance events.
