Festival Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary National Archives Building Constitution Avenue | Washington, DC June 4-6, 2026 You're invited to the <a href="https://archivesfoundation.org/spirit-of-independence-festival/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Spirit of Independence Festival</a>, a three-day immersive celebration of American history, culture, and community at the National Archives—the home of the original Declaration of Independence—in the heart of Washington, DC.  Hosted beneath a tent spanning two city blocks in front of the National Archives, the Spirit of Independence Festival will include free daytime events for families and three evening benefit events to support the National Archives Foundation and its effort to engage the American public with the nation’s history.  From free daytime programming like a patriotic pet “yappy hour” to ticketed nighttime events like a culinary “taste of America,” there’s something for everyone to enjoy throughout the multi-day festival. Join Hālau Hoʻomau I ka Wai Ola O Hawaiʻi&nbsp;to commemorate the arrival of a sacred Hawaiian artifact at the National Museum of the American Indian Smithsonian as part of Hoʻolauleʻa: Welcoming Kānepō Ka Lua on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Alexandria, Vir.-based Hawaiian cultural school will perform on at 12 noon, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on May 16.
Led by Kumu Hula Manu Ikaika, the musicians and dancers of Hālau Hoʻomau I ka Wai Ola O Hawaiʻi will demonstrate a variety of Hawaiian instruments and implements including the ulili (Hawaiian gourd yoyo), handmade by the dancers. Founded in April 1986 as Inlingua Foreign Language Center, a 6-classroom language school, ICA expanded under the leadership of Deidre Doyle, an entrepreneur with a background in organizational management who joined the company the same year. As a military spouse, she had developed a deep understanding of military organizations and culture, helping shape ICA into a trusted provider of language training and testing for military professionals. Doyle became a partner in 1993 and sole owner in 2009, when she changed the name to ICA Language Services. Today, ICA operates a 60+ classroom schoolhouse in Rosslyn and has delivered nearly five million hours of language instruction and more than 30,000 language assessments across 120+ languages. ICA also provides training on military bases throughout the US and abroad. The company is now led by President and CEO Lexie Casey, Doyle’s daughter, who joined ICA in 2009 after a decade in government contracting.
