Today's riddle: What do you get when you cross an angry cow with an angry sheep? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Washington's Newspaper War Is Back: The Washington Post Faces a Bold New Rival + Video (undercodenews.com) — Washington readers are about to see a real shakeup in local news, as the Washington Post faces fresh competition from the newly rebranded Washington Sun. With the Sun hiring former Post journalists, reviving the Capital Weather Gang, and targeting local sports and politics, both outlets may be pushed to improve coverage, subscriptions, and accountability for DC residents.
2. Motherless announce October tour with Porcupine (nextmosh.com) — Chicago metal bands Motherless and Porcupine are bringing their fall tour to Washington's Pie Shop on October 23, giving local heavy-music fans a chance to catch their riff-heavy sound up close. The nine-date run supports Motherless's debut album, with tickets already on sale for the DC stop and other East Coast cities.
3. 22-year-old pleads guilty in alleged $240 million bitcoin heist, one of the largest in US history (cnn.com) — A Washington resident was duped out of more than $245 million in bitcoin, in what prosecutors call one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts in US history. Ringleader Malone Lam, 22, has pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and faces up to 20 years in prison after a lavish spending spree on luxury cars, mansions, and nightlife before his arrest.
4. Tai Baribo, back from injury, scores twice as D.C. United down Crew (statenews.net) — D.C. United snapped a long winless run against the Columbus Crew with a 2-1 home victory in Washington, powered by two first-half goals from returning striker Tai Baribo. The win, just their second in 12 league matches, keeps local MLS hopes alive as Baribo and several recently injured players regain form for DC supporters.
