Aperiomics Continues to Expand Team with Addition of Collin Smith

as Director of Business Development and Education

Ashburn, VA – February 19, 2019 – Aperiomics, a company that helps doctors and their patients worldwide solve difficult medical cases, limit the use of antibiotics, and drastically cut trial-and-error testing, has named Collin Smith Director of Business Development and Education.

Smith will be responsible for growing the company’s customer base and for expanding its relationships with partner organizations. Before joining Aperiomics, Smith was a highly successful sales representative for Applied Medical Resources (AMR) where he lead sales of medical products, including laparoscopic platforms and a proprietary line of advanced vessel sealing devices. He also built relationships across surgical specialties with emphasis on general, OB/GYN, urologogical, colorectal and vascular practices. At AMR, Smith managed surgical trials and evaluations, trained new staff, coordinated surgeon-to-resident clinical educational labs and created value analysis proposals for hospital administration.

Company CEO Dr. Crystal Icenhour, said, “This has been a big period of expansion and recognition for Aperiomics. Collin brings to all of our customers a solid record of achievement and high energy -- we’re excited to bring him aboard.”

Smith is the former CEO and co-founder of Dash Analytics where he recruited, trained and lead a team to launch and commercialize an enterprise-analytics platform using geospatial analysis to estimate campus wait times at high traffic customer service counters. The system was later adopted by Kennesaw State University, the Birmingham Barons Minor League Baseball Team and Arcadia University.

Smith said, “I was drawn into biotech in general and to Aperiomics specifically because of my background in data analytics and my clinical interest working in surgical device sales. I am an entrepreneur at heart, having started my own company. The work of Aperiomics hits close to home also because of what I believe was a curable illness of a close family member who passed away. I have a deep passion for this company’s mission.”

Smith is a graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia where he earned a bachelor of health science with a concentration in public health administration and was ranked at the top of his class. He was named a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

About Aperiomics

Aperiomics is the only company of its kind and scope in the world. It is revolutionizing the way that medical professionals around the world detect and diagnose infections. Supported by the National Science Foundation, Aperiomics identifies every known bacteria, virus, fungus, and parasite through deep shotgun metagenomic sequencing. We help doctors and their patients identify the causes of infections that other tests cannot identify, thus streamlining the path to a positive clinical outcome. Many patients that we have helped were sick for years with no understanding of why. Patients and their physicians often contact Aperiomics after hearing about our life-changing success stories. The complete genetic fingerprint of a sample is created and compared to Aperiomics’ Xplore- PATHO™ database - a comprehensive database of more than 37,000 microorganisms, including the world’s largest collection of known pathogens. Aperiomics was named Life Science’s Innovator of the Year in 2016 and International Start Up of the Year in 2018. For more information, please visit www.aperiomics.com.
