Arrest Made In Homicide Of 67-year-old​ District Woman: Police

WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives arrested a suspect Thursday in connection with the July 16 homicide of a 67-year-old Southeast woman, according to a release.

Around 6:19 a.m., officers from the Sixth District responded to the unit block of 35th Street, S.E., for the report of an unconscious person inside of a residence. They found an adult woman unconscious and unresponsive. After examining the woman, D.C. Fire and EMS determined she showed no signs consistent with life and transported her later to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Following an autopsy of the woman, the chief medical examiner determined the cause of death was asphyxia secondary to neck compression and ruled the manner of death a homicide.

MPD identified the victim as Hazel Evans, 67, of Southeast.

Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Thursday, officers arrested Seth Andrews, 33, of no fixed address, and charged him with first degree murder. The detectives’ investigation concluded the offense was domestic in nature.
