Correction: Arrest Made In Killing Of 11-Year-Old Davon McNeal
D.C. arrested a suspect in connection with the July 4 fatal shooting of Davon McNeal. Three additional suspects remain at large.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story gave the incorrect last name for Davon McNeal.
WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the of Metropolitan Police Department arrested a suspect Wednesday in the July 4th fatal shooting of Davon McNeal following a Peace Cookout in Anacostia. Police are also asking the public's help in locating three other suspects who remain at large.
"I know I speak for the entire community when I say that we are heartbroken and outraged by Davon's murder," said Mayor Muriel Bowser, during a Thursday evening press briefing on the case. "It is just the worst thing to happen in the community for a child to lose his life to violence. As mayor, there is no part of this job that is more difficult than seeing a family who has lost a child."

On Saturday, around 9:20 p.m., Seventh District officers were flagged down by a citizen in 1400 block of Cedar Street, S.E., in connection with a shooting, said Police Chief Peter Newsham, during the briefing. The officers found McNeal outside his family home, suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS transported McNeal to a nearby hospital, but all life-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, police learned that Davon was attending a peace event with family members in the area of his home.

"Moments before the shooting, Davon had headed toward his home family home to retrieve an item for a family member," Newsham said. "As Davon made his way down his walkway towards his door, five armed suspects appeared in the immediate vicinity and gunfire erupted. As a result of that gunfire, our community lost an 11-year-old, beautiful, little boy."
According to Newsham, D.C. homicide detectives secured four arrest warrants for suspects in the case.
Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Thursday, MPD arrested and Daryle Bond, of Southeast, and charged him with first degree murder while armed (premeditated).
Bond has a prior history of violent crime, according to Newsham.
MPD also identified three other suspects in the case: Carlo General, 19, and Marcel Gordon, 25, both of Southeast, and Christian Wingfield, 22, of Hillcrest Heights, Maryland. They are all wanted on first degree murder while armed (premeditated) arrest warrants.
"Not surprisingly, all three of these suspects had gun-related criminal history," Newsham said.
Newsham did not identify the fifth shooter during Thursday's press conference. He did say that an arrest warrant was being pursued for another individual.
MPD released photos of the three suspects and is asking the public's help in locating them. General, Gordon, and Wingfield should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.

"Our plea is if you have information that will lead us to these individuals that you call us immediately,"Bowser said.
Police ask anyone with information about the location of these suspects or this shooting incident to call 202-727-9099 or send a text message to 50411.
Bowser reminded the public that a $25,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
"But we know that this is about more than a reward," she said. "This is also about sending the clear message to everyone in our community that we will not tolerate this violence. Davon should be with his family today. He should be doing all the things that little boys do during the summertime in our city."
Davon's Grandfather John Ayala, of the D.C. Guardian Angels, was present during Bowser's briefing on Thursday.
"The police did a great job," Ayala said. "The mayor did a good job. And I have to say, the community did a good job. ... Everybody participated in trying to close this case. So, I just want to say I'm feeling a lot of joy on that part. But, of course, I'm sad because I lost my grandson."
