Awesome Con Returns To DC With David Tennant, Edgar Wright, Space Station Commander

Awesome Con, Washington DC's Comic Con, returns this weekend with a three-day celebration of pop culture, comics, science, gaming and more.

WASHINGTON, DC — Awesome Con — Washington DC's Comic Con — returns to DC with a three-day celebration of pop culture, comics, science, gaming and more this weekend, June 16-18. The Mid-Atlantic's premier pop culture convention will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and is expected to draw more than 50,000 visitors throughout the weekend for its panels, costume contests, trivia and gaming tournaments.

Guests can expect different exhibitions like The Moon: Cornerstone of Solar System Science, where panelists discuss the latest discoveries in lunar science from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission, how these discoveries are revolutionizing our understanding of our nearest neighbor, and what insights we are gaining about our Solar System by studying the Moon.

Other exhibits include A Brief History of Comics, Cosplay Rule 63, DC Stunt Coalition Workshop: Brawling, Dungeons and Dragons Adventurer’s League, The Pro Wrestling Fan Panel and more.

This year's guests include David Tennant from "Doctor Who," WWE stars Charlotte Flair and Shinsuke Nakamura, director Edgar Wright, former International Space Station commander Col. Chris Hadfield, Felicia Day from the web series "The Guild," and more.

New this year is Pride Alley, co-presented by Geeks Out. Pride Alley is a spotlight on queer creators and fans and will feature panels like Making LGBT+ Representation Matter in Fiction and Stop Queerbaiting, It’s Time to Be Brave.

"Awesome Con is proud of all of our fans, guests, exhibitors, and artists – and as we started to build this year’s event, we wanted to do more and create a bigger platform to better celebrate and educate DC’s LGBTQ community. This is important to us and who we want to be," the website states.

Costumes and cosplay are welcome at Awesome Con. All attendees three-years-old and up need a ticket to enter Awesome Con. There are various options:

  • A 3-day weekend pass is $75
  • Friday only admission (12-8 p.m.) is $35
  • Saturday only admission (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) is $45
  • Sunday only admission (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) is $35
  • Kids ticket (ages 10 and under) is $10
