Baltimore Woman Accused Of Throwing Firework At Police Officers
The U.S. Attorney's Office filed criminal charges against a Baltimore woman in connection with a declared riot last month in D.C.
WASHINGTON, DC — A Baltimore woman is facing criminal charges for throwing a firework at police officers and burning the trousers of an officer last month during a declared riot on 16th Street, Northwest, according to a U.S. Justice Department release.
Alanna Rogers, 26, of Baltimore was arraigned on a criminal complaint Thursday in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She was charged with felony assault on a police officer while armed and misdemeanor rioting in connection demonstration that occurred Aug. 30 and carried over to Aug. 31, according to U.S. Attorney Michael R. Sherwin. Officers initially arrested Rogers on Aug. 31, but they did not charge her until Thursday, following investigation into the incident by the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.
On Thursday, Judge Sean C. Staples found probable cause for the charges, but opted not to detain Rogers due to her lack of criminal history, according to the release. However, the judge ordered her to not possess fireworks and to stay away from the 800 and 900 blocks of 16th Street, Northwest.
