Ben and Jerry Get Arrested at U.S. Capitol Protest

The famous ice cream duo were with Democracy Awakening, protesting against corporate influence in politics.

The two founders of Ben and Jerry's ice cream are no strangers to making political statements -- and this week, they were willing to go to jail for it by protesting at the U.S. Capitol.

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield were among hundreds to be arrested at a protest April 18 aimed at reducing the influence of corporate money in politics, as well as to support a hearing for President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, according to the group Democracy Awakening, which organized the event.

Ben and Jerry's even put out a press release publicizing the arrest titled, "Why Ben and Jerry Just Got Arrested."

"We all have a role to play in the fight for justice," the statement reads. "Join us this year as we spread the word and take action. Democracy belongs in the hands of all Americans, not in the pockets of a few billionaires. And no citizen who wants to vote should ever be kept from the polls."

Ben and Jerry are ardent supporters of Democratic presidential candidate and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and even created a flavor for him called "Bernie's Yearning." It has a thick fudge crust and mint ice cream underneath.
