Bicyclist Screamed Racial Slur, Assaulted Driver: Report
Police are investigating 25-year-old Maxim Regan Smith for a possible hate crime.

WASHINGTON, DC -- A man has been arrested after he allegedly struck a driver in the head with a metal bike lock in Georgetown and called him a racial slur repeatedly, according to a report.
The Washington Post reports that 25-year-old Maxim Regan Smith was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor destruction of property after the incident, which happened in the 1200 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW. Police reportedly are also investigating him for a hate crime.
Citing charging documents, the Post reports that Smith was riding his bike in the center lane on M Street when the driver behind him became angry that he was riding slowly. Smith allegedly smacked the driver's car trunk with an object as he drove past, prompting the driver to get out and threaten to call police.

The driver then grabbed Smith's bike as he tried to pedal away, and Smith began using the N-word. Smith allegedly used a bicycle U-lock to strike the driver in the head, according to the report.
