Bidens To Host White House Wedding Reception For Granddaughter

WASHINGTON, DC — The granddaughter of President Joe Biden plans to hold her wedding reception at the White House this fall, she announced Monday.

Naomi Biden, the oldest daughter of the president’s son Hunter Biden, and Peter Neal announced their engagement last September. Naomi Biden made the White House wedding reception announcement on Twitter.

“Peter and I are endlessly grateful to my Nana and Pop for the opportunity to celebrate our wedding at the White House,” Naomi Biden wrote. “We can’t wait to make our commitment to one another official and for what lies ahead.”

Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director for first lady Jill Biden, said in an email that the wedding reception would be held on Nov. 19, The New York Times reported.

Naomi Biden, 28, and Neal, 24, met four years ago in New York City and now live in D.C. The couple is still in the early planning stages of their wedding, NBC4 reported.

Naomi Biden is a lawyer at the law firm of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP in D.C. Neal is from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He is in his final semester of law school at the University of Pennsylvania.

Nine presidential children have married in White House ceremonies. The last one was Tricia Nixon's June 12, 1971, wedding, according to NBC4. The last wedding reception was held in June 2008 to celebrate the wedding of Jenna Bush to Henry Hager after the two married a month earlier on President George W. Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas.

No information could be found on any previous weddings of presidents’ grandchildren held at the White House.

Joe Biden is the father of four children. His firstborn daughter, Naomi Christina Biden, died in 1972, in the same car accident as her mother, Biden’s first wife Neilia Hunter Biden. His firstborn son, Joseph "Beau" Biden III, died in 2015 from brain cancer.

Joe and Jill Biden's two surviving children include one son from his first marriage, Hunter Biden, and a daughter from his marriage to Jill Biden, Ashley Biden. Naomi Biden is one of three children of Hunter Biden.
