Bill Would Make DC Totally Clean Energy-Based

The legislation comes after a United Nations report on climate change.

WASHINGTON, DC -- New legislation in D.C. on the heels of a worrying United Nations climate report would make the District a 100 percent clean energy city by 2032.

WAMU reports that the D.C. Council met this week to consider major new climate legislation that would create the strongest requirement for renewable energy in the United States, with a goal of transitioning to 100 percent clean energy in a decade and a half.

The UN report released on Monday states that tens of millions will be forced inland due to sea levels rising and hundreds of millions will be affected by severe droughts in the coming decades. Also, up to 90 percent of coral reefs may die.
