'Black Panther' Closes Out Summer Film Series at MLK Memorial
The 2021 Films at the Stone series will conclude Aug. 19 with a showing of "Black Panther" at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
WASHINGTON, DC — The 2021 Films at the Stone series will conclude Aug. 19 with a showing of “Black Panther” at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
The KanKouran West African Dance Company will perform before the 8 p.m. film start time. The free screening takes place on the lawn next to the bookstore at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on the National Mall.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early and bring a blanket or short lawn chair. Parking is limited and use of public transportation is encouraged.

Starring the late Chadwick Boseman, Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, takes his rightful place as King of Wakanda. In 2018, “Black Panther” became the first superhero movie to be nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
The summer film series is part of The Memorial Foundation’s 10th anniversary year celebration. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in D.C. opened to the public in August 2011.

"Over the last year, historic milestones for democracy and justice have collided with a pandemic that forced us physically apart,” Harry E. Johnson, CEO of The Memorial Foundation, said in a statement. “We are overjoyed to end our film series at the Memorial this summer, with a fan-favorite movie that everyone can enjoy.”
