DC Eagles 'Freedom,' 'Liberty' Have Flown the Coop [VIDEO]

Both of the stars of the Eagle Cam have taken flight and left the nest.

After weeks of watching little bald eagles "Freedom" and "Liberty" hatch from their eggs and then grow up in their nest at the National Arboretum, it's time to say goodbye to both of them, as they've both left the nest.

The DC Eagle Cam currently shows an empty nest. Video shared online shows Freedom suddenly taking flight and eventually landing on a nearby tree, and Liberty soon followed suit. You can view the video of Freedom flying off here.

The two eaglets have been an obsession for the D.C. area for the past couple months. They were born to bald eagle couple "Mr. President" and "The First Lady" and have been the star of the #DCEagleCam. The original Patch story in April has been shared more than 10,000 times since then.

The first egg was laid on Feb. 10 and the second on Feb. 14. Two eggs is the typical bald eagle brood.

The couple was at the same site last year and raised one eaglet. It's the first time bald eagles have nested at the arboretum since 1947, prompting staff to install two HD video cameras so that the public could watch the nest live.
